Dogs should be kept under close control for this walk

The most prominent feature at the beginning of this walk is the site of an Iron Age Fort straddling the top of Stroanfreggan Craig. This site has never been excavated.

The prominent cairn in the enclosure and the remains of a stone wall running down the west side are comparatively modern. The dramatic view across the Water of Ken includes the steep north-eastern gairies of Beninner and Moorbrock hill.

Across the road from the fort is Stroanfreggan Cairn, an important Bronze age site. Although the original purpose of this cairn has not been established some interesting finds have been made including a large, sealed stone cist containing a plano-convex flint knife; a bronze blade fragment and pieces of bone mixed with charcoal
