The hill country of northern Galloway is one of the remotest and least populated parts of mainland Britain. Easily accessible from the main A713 road from Castle Douglas to Ayr, this peaceful countryside offers short walks to historic remains and dramatic ridge walks over 2,000 feet. The Heritage Group has created a series of trails to and through the areas of local interest. Leaflets detailing each of the trails are available at the Heritage Centre in Carsphairn.
